Letterness
Letterness is a piece of typeface design mimicking the cursive handwriting style in letter.
People are connected yet still isolated in this digital time. In response to the Someone Somewhere Wants a Letter event, the quality which makes the letter writing carry special meaning was explored in this project. The cursive writing style undoubtedly is one of the qualities. Its organic and capricious form enables the reader to connect with the writer emotionally. After studying the cursive combinations in Reginald Piggot, Handwriting, a National Survey and on vintage postcards, English alphabets were written repeatedly in cursive style until 13 essential shapes were subtracted and summarised. They were used to reform the 26 lowercase English alphabets.
